Title : "Securing Electronic Medical Records using Biometric Authentication "

The need for automated identification of a disease makes the issue of medical biometrics very current in our society. Not all biometric tools available provide real-time feedback. The talk introduce digital signal processing technique and pattern recognition as one of the biometric tools that have the potential to identify deviations from the normal functional state. This first part introduces biometric and its different types and then specifically focuses on medical biometrics and the potential applications of bio signals to such task. The talk also present our previous experience with electrocardiogram (ECG), phonocardiogram (PCG) and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) in the research regarding the potential use of the medical findings in the application of biometrics.

One such application refer to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) information such as medical patient record from different sources related to patients treatment, lab test, history of patient, prescription, diagnosis that can be accessed from various sites within or outside organization with high security and with patient privacy confidentiality. Thus, there is high interest in the security of EMR and EHR. This information is necessary for GP’S or physicians to be able to make the best decision about the patient care. We as a patient has the right to know how are our medical data being shared with other interested party. With growing interest about falsification, security and privacy authentication base on biometric offer several benefits compared with other scheme.
